Keeping Control

The goal of discipline

In our Christian small and large groups, the purpose of discipline is to guide children toward becoming Christ-like.

Discipline is a gradual process, where the leader’s control eventually leads to the child developing self-control through Christ.

As leaders, we are called to prayerfully, patiently, and consistently show children that discipline is not about shame or blame—but about helping them grow into the character of Jesus.

Love as Jesus does

Leading with Christ-like control

We are called to guide children in the way Jesus would.

  • Do not allow one child to repeatedly disrupt the class. If a child isn’t listening or refusing to follow directions, notify your leader so we can address it appropriately.

  • Communicate with parents lovingly. Never reprimand a child in front of other parents, children, or adults. Always speak with care and respect.
