Sending Kids to the Restroom
Kindergarten & 1st Grade:
An adult must accompany each child to the restroom.
Always take a buddy with the child for accountability.
Grades 2 & 3:
Children may go in pairs.
Confirm they know where the restroom is to ensure they go to the correct location.
Important:
Do not send children to the restroom during check-in.
Monitor the time — no restroom trips after 7:00 to prevent children from being in restrooms or hallways when the service ends.
Restroom Control
A Few Other Things to Remember:
Try the 5 minute rule: Ask the kids if they can wait 5 minutes and then they can go - most times they completely forget. If you know a child always has to go, or if your small group is out of control with this, ask before checking them in.
If you have children that chronically abused the bathroom privilege, ask them if they need to go before you check them in and have the parents take them to the restroom.
If a child is persistent, that usually means they need to go – so let them go before they have an accident. Also keep in mind that sometimes there are children that have medical needs that warrant the need to use the restroom often.
